Jacob Klein’s Lecture on History and the Liberal Arts

In 2024 & 2025 several seminars were held to discuss this important lecture by Dean Klein on why History is not part of the Undergraduate program at St. John’s. Sure, they read some of the same texts we do in the GI: Herodotus, Thucydides, Vico, etc. But they don’t study the discipline of “history” as an important thing. This essay explains why.
